[Editor's Note] Information abstracted contains the name and nature of the criminal case. Some of the pages are dim and difficult to read, but comparing names to those on the 1850 Federal Census, Johnson Co., Tennessee, most of the names agree in spelling.
Each of the cases contain at least one or more pages with details regarding the nature of the case and evidence. The numbering of pages is inconsistent. I have tried to sort them out by years, but even that has been somewhat inconsistent. For further information, I encourage researchers to use the film and read the entire case.
A term used in some of these cases is scire facias which means: Latin: "you are to make known, show cause". A writ requiring the person against whom it is issued to appear and show cause why some matter of record should not be annulled or vacated, or why a dormant judgment against that person should not be revived.
