1860 3rd Civil District Johnson County, Tennessee

Transcribed and Annotated by John B. Rochelle
Gray, Tennessee
Reviewers: Janie Bryant and Diana Dunn and others.

Just as there appears to have been redistricting between 1850 and 1860, again (although to a lesser extent), there appears to have been further redistricting between 1860 and 1870. Several families listed in the beginning of the 3rd District enumeration of 1860 do not appear in the 1870 enumeration.

This family appears to be fractured in 1870 JCT, and would have been redistricted out of the 3rd District. Presumption of a typo on Mary's age. She should be about 20 in this census and would still be old enough for an out of wedlock child…. Believed to have lived on the McQueen property

51hThomas Parker5TNs/o John Parker & Elizabeth _____

*51c is listed in 1850 as William H. H. Parker (William Henry Harrison Parker), and William P. Parker in 1860. Also, 51d is listed as Ollif M. Parker (m) in 1850 and Olla Parker (f) in 1860. The listings remain in each census as originally transcribed since there is no clear indication to the writer which name (or gender) is the most accurate at this time. Bill Parker headed up a group of Confederate Home Guard which murdered several Union people and terrorized Johnson County during the Civil War. He was gunned down by members of the 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry. Some Confederate descendants consider him to be an outlaw and unworthy of the Stars and Bars
